Mississauga Sunset

The Mississauga sunset briefly held
its ground; brigades of foggy, decadent nights
struggled through the twilight and derailed
in pastures of industrial delights,
and, while no one thought to pay attention,
another strange expressway looped around
the ancient silver bus with no suspension,
leapt into the luminous dusk, and drowned.
The sunset held its ground and trampled through
wan suburbs, reflective signs, and cell phone towers,
flooding misty streets, the eyes of lost
commuters; and then, a few frail, fatal hours
later, it surrendered to the blue
apotheosis of an autumn frost.
